No hassle of filing any returns

IEC does not call for any return filing. After you get the IEC code, there isn’t any follow up for sustaining its validity, i.e. it is valid for a lifetime. 

No renewal Required

IEC, once granted, has validity for a lifetime. You don’t need to apply for any renewal or have to pin updates.

Handy Processing

After applying, you need to wait for around 10 to 15 days to get your IEC code from the DGFT. Furthermore, there isn’t a need to provide proof of any export or import for getting the IEC.

Under the MEIS Scheme, numerous rewards and incentives are provided to exporters. Such incentives are given to exporters at a prescribed rate which varies from product to product.

IE Code is not a tax registration. However, certain customs duty may be levied depending on the product.

No. IEC is a mandatory document for recognition by Govt. of India as Exporter / Importer of goods and services. However, if the value of goods is too low, the customs authorities may permit first export by imposing nominal charges which is highly unlikely to happen.

Only a single IEC can be issued against a single PAN card.

Import Export code is allotted with lifetime validity and therefore it does not require any renewal.

Yes. In order to make changes, you need to raise a request with the DGFT and produce the relevant documents to make the modifications.

IE code can be cancelled by initiating a formal request to the DGFT online.

As trade is not possible without a valid IEC, the penalty levied may be the pay duty depending upon the quantum of the goods.
